Then Again, I Could Be Wrong

(UPDATE: Or not.

As WWM originally theorized, Josh Freeman chose a chance to be the long-term starter, rather than a fill-in until E.J. Manuel gets healthy, thereby denying us the chance to use the above photograph every single time we mentioned him.

So, according to the Toronto Sun, the Single Wing it is.)

In a post earlier today, We Want Marangi dismissed the likelihood of the Bills signing new former Buccaneers quarterback Josh Freeman.

So, of course, Buffalo management reportedly went all out after Freeman a few hours later.
The Bills are interested in signing Freeman and began intensifying their efforts to acquire him on Sunday night, according to Adam Schefter and Chris Mortensen of ESPN. Buffalo would make a lot of sense as the destination for Freeman after the Bills lost starting quarterback EJ Manuel to an LCL sprain on Thursday night. The only other quarterback on the Bills’ roster is undrafted rookie Jeff Tuel, which means Freeman might be able to sign with the Bills on Monday and be ready to play on Sunday.
Such a move would be completely uncharacteristic for the Bills as I have known them for decades, because signing Freeman creates a potential conflict with Manuel, the first-round draft pick annointed as Buffalo's football future.

Adding a guy with four years of starting experience in the NFL, including a 2010 campaign in which he threw for 25 touchdowns and just six interceptions while leading Tampa Bay to a 10-6 record, also gives the Bills their best shot at avoiding a month or more of getting their teeth kicked in with a quarterback who absolutely no one else wanted.

"It's like they actually want to win," said an equally surprised Mrs. We Want Marangi.

Freeman's other most avid suitors, especially Oakland and Minnesota, would be more likely to hand him the starting job indefinitely. San Francisco, where he would back up Super Bowl quarterback Colin Kaepernick, is also interested.

Assuming he wants to play next Sunday, Freeman will announce his choice by early Monday -- probably before you read this, and maybe before I finish writing it -- in order to get in a full week with his new team.
